We are spending the winter in the South of Spain. The last weeks Andalucia spoiled us with pleasant temperatures, frequent sunshine and a beautiful Atlantic beach at our doorstep. It has been a dream of ours to live close to the sea. Being able to mostly avoid the cold and wet season has proven to be a good choice. Such a privilege!
And yet, it hasn’t felt great all the way…
This step required emptying and selling our house, staying a couple of months at an interim place and, more importantly, giving up onsite clients, a place where we felt home, things we loved like my preferred yoga studio, and the tennis lessons I have been taking since a year with a lovely group. Which brought up quite some tension…
Finding a house in Spain turned out being a pain. It went pretty wrong with the first contract, ending up in a moldy place and a legal conflict with the owner. Flooding almost reached us within the first days. And I was alternating between being sick and unwell for weeks during this transition. It all added up to a point where it felt like “it isn’t meant to be”.
But living in a warm country, at least over the Winter, has been a dream since ages. We knew that this is what we wanted, even if it suddenly didn’t feel right anymore.
Facing the practical and mental difficulties this move brought has been a good exercise, going through the process we also teach as coaches: sitting with the tension. It is a natural part of every creation, and even a required one.
It is in these moments that it is important to remember why we chose what we are going for, to focus on the end result, to trust our intuition (not mistaken for the egoic thoughts and feelings accompanying the process), and to embrace both the truth of the vision and the obstacles coming up (because they will!).
