Change is physical

Change

We need to treat change like a physical challenge – because it is! Change is as much a body thing as a brain thing. And the more you allow yourself to engage your body, the more likely you are to get to the other side.

Let’s be clear: nobody manages to think their way into change. We have to act to move forward, to create momentum; we have to adapt when we feel it is not going in the right direction.

Taking a leap is a physical act, not only when the leap is involving physical exercise. It involves your whole body to execute it effectively – brain, heart and physical body.

And nobody is going through big changes without FEELING it in their bodies: there will be excitement and there will be fear or at least moments of doubt as changes do not come with guarantees. There might be tingles, sweats, and heartbeats. You may feel exhausted or even drained.

We are going through big changes right now and it is exciting and exhausting. We are leaving our house and most of its interior behind to move to a new country. Feeling fear and hope and stress and enthusiasm. They are taking turns and sometimes coming all together, taking their toll. Without admitting and taking care of it – and ourselves – it would be hard to get through.

Leaps require rest, and self-care – and ideally, to be prepared. For a change…

“As dealing with change becomes a regular activity, leading it becomes a skill to hone, an internal capacity to master.”  ~Arnaud Henneville
