The Power of Intuition Over Logic
When we allow our imagination and intuition to provide us with information, and stop making sense of everything, we are able to connect dots and seek solutions far beyond our rational mind’s capability. In fact, our rational mind, as amazing as it is in counting, calculating and analysing, is literally in the way when we wish to seek new, intuitive paths and solutions.
Research figures vary but they all agree that our senses receive millions of bits of information every single second, whilst our conscious mind grasps far less than 0,1% of it. That means that at any moment, we are only aware of a microscopic fraction of reality. Interestingly, our mind “chooses” those bits that are familiar to us, that we already know and expect to see. And that is obviously pretty limited.
Why the Best Ideas Emerge in Stillness
Many breakthroughs occur when the conscious mind relaxes — during sleep, meditation, or while doing unrelated activities. Albert Einstein for example played the violin when stuck on a problem. And it is not a coincidence that people get genius ideas under the shower or when they are out in nature, not thinking of anything in particular.
We can credit many great discoveries and innovations to intuition, dreams, or altered states of consciousness. Steve Jobs credited LSD for helping him think outside the box and Nikola Tesla believed he was receiving ideas rather than creating them.
Be assured, it is not necessary to take LSD in order to access superconscious knowledge!
Stop Making Sense to Unlock New Insights
The recipe is to stop making sense. To put ourselves in a position of pure curiosity. To look at the world like a newborn baby, without any concept, preconceived notion, or belief. For example, you can imagine that your mind is getting empty, that a blank space is created in your head, ready to receive. Or that you look through the eyes of an infant, wondering what is “obvious” about a situation or solution.
Intuition is what the mind immediately apprehends before rationalising. There are many ways to get there. But we cannot be in our heads and access our intuition at the same time. We need to stop thinking in order to unlock insights that remain invisible to our logic mind.
